I read. I travel. I write.

When I read, I travel. Some days, I actually leave home. Those are the days I write about.

Welcome to Pin Drops & Paper Trails.

My adventures run the gamut from grand experiences in America’s National Parks to weekend-warrior discoveries in my own backyard. Along for the ride are the books that inspire me to travel to new places or delve deeper when I come home. These are my travels and the books that accompany me.

What I’m Reading

Lost Journals of Sacajewea by Debra Magpie Earling- historical fiction purporting the true history of Sacajewea and her legendary role in the Lewis & Clark expedition

The Lost Journals of Sacajawea by Debra Magpie Earling is an eye-opening retelling of the life of Sacajawea. This is not the fairy tale we were taught in American history class. It’s an emotionally charged and disturbing story of a girl robbed of her innocence by men seeking immortal fame. The Lost Journals is a challenging read that left a deep impression on my heart. It’s a story I’ll never forget.

Sacajawea has always been known as a key player in the Lewis & Clark expedition of 1804, but did you know she had a son? Jean Baptist Charbonneau, nicknamed “Pomp”, became like a son to William Clark. How do we know? The Lost Journals leaves that story untold. But one way we can know for sure is by the name of a now famous landmark on the Lewis & Clark trail- a stone monolith so significant William Clark signed his name to it. That landmark is Pompeys Pillar in Montana.

I’ll tell you about how I discovered this lesser-known national monument on my 2018 road trip to Yellowstone National Park in my upcoming article, Pompeys Pillar- On Montana’s Lewis & Clark Trail. Be looking for it!

When will my next grand adventure begin?
