I read. I travel. I write.

When I read, I travel. Some days, I actually leave home. Those are the days I write about.

Welcome to Pin Drops & Paper Trails.

My adventures run the gamut from grand experiences in America’s National Parks to weekend-warrior discoveries in my own backyard. Along for the ride are the books that inspire me to travel to new places or delve deeper when I come home. These are my travels and the books that accompany me.

What I’m Reading

What Is the Story of Smokey Bear? a children's book by Steve Korte

Because sometimes you just need to feel like a kid again- and learn something while doing it. That’s why I’m reading What Is the Story of Smokey Bear? by Steve Korté.

I’m a Smokey Bear fan and have been since I was a kid watching Saturday morning cartoons when Smokey would make his “Only You” appearance during commercial breaks. Smokey Bear is beloved for his timeless character and message. But the story of the real “Smokey”, the black bear cub rescued in New Mexico’s Lincoln National Forest after a terrible wildfire in 1950 is what I love most about this American icon.

When I was doing research for my New Mexico road trip, I came across an article about Smokey Bear Historical Park located in the town of Capitan. I immediately put it on our official itinerary, and I’m so glad I did!

Smokey Bear Historical Park was totally worth it. When I look back on that New Mexico road trip, I’m amazed by all of the epic national park experiences we had, but I remember Smokey Bear Historical Park as one of my sweetest memories. I’ll tell you all about it in my upcoming post Smokey Bear Historical Park- Honoring the Bear. Look for it Memorial Day weekend.

When will my next grand adventure begin?
