Wash Me Clean

Wash me clean.
Show me your grace and what it means
To let your spirit take control
Of my worries and my dreams.
Let it be
Oh, holy mist among the trees
My time to be set free.
Wash me clean.

Wash me clean
Show me the depth of what it means
To give up selfishness for love
Reflect you instead of me.
Let it be
Oh, holy living water deep
My time to be set free.
Wash me clean.

Wash me clean.
Set me afire with what it means
To let your power be enough;
Burn the anger out of me.
Let it be
Oh, holy ancient flow of peace
My time to be set free
Wash me clean.

Our pasts will never hold our last mistakes.
There'll come a time when we all find
We've lost the only Way.

It's a circle of discovery
These crazy lives we lead.
We can't see the hope in hopeless;
Miss the forest for the trees.
But, when we follow
His holy river Trinity,
He'll open our eyes and wash us clean.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, wash us clean.

*This poem was written after a 2023 trip to what is known as the “Circle of Discovery”, a route including Crater Lake National Park, Redwoods National Park, Lassen National Park, and other natural wonders. I’m specifically referring to the redwood trees, Crater Lake, and the volcanoes in Lassen National Park along with the Trinity River in northern California.
