I suspect I’m but a speck,
And the mountain says it’s so.
Out of respect, I genuflect,
But wonder if the mountain knows
If it truly be a mountain,
Or if it be but speck
In shade of greater mountains
Knelt in humble retrospect.
*I’ve seen many a mountain in my travels, but I never cease to be amazed by them. This poem was written after a 2023 trip to Mt. Shasta in California.
