The Nazi Officer's Wife by Edith Hahn Beer with Susan Dworkin

I happened across The Nazi Officer’s Wife in my local Goodwill store a few days ago. For $1.99, I couldn’t pass it up, especially since I have tickets in hand for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

Edith Hahn Beer’s account of being a “U-boat” during the Holocaust is riveting, tragic, and uplifting at the same time. Hundreds of letters written by Hahn-Beer during the Holocaust are now housed in the museum I’ll be visiting next week. This book is a perfect example of how reading augments my travels.
